It’s in the shop but I should have one I can use to record episode 3 by the end of the week. I’ll cram 2 weeks worth of reviews into it and then next week I’ll have my brief history of the DC Universe on tap for late in the week (as a seperate cast from the review cast).

These are comics I recommened for anyone who’s interested in comics. To help people jump into these issues I’m giving character background and a summary of how we got to where we are. Sometimes these issues will be in the middle of an arc, my goal is to give you enough background and very few spoilers for the current issue. This weeks issues are Amazing Spider-Man #540 and Green Arrow #74. So sit back, listen and be sure to let me know what you think.

As a side note I think this is a much better episode but I’m still working on a few things. Hope you guys enjoy.

Note: When I talk about the Spider-Man television show I’m not refering to any of the cartoons, I’m refering to the live action show which starred Nicholas Hammond as Peter/Spidey. Man I loved that show as a kid.

I have recorded an episode 2, but after some thought I’ve decided not to post it and to go back to the drawing board for this podcast. After careful consideration I realized my podcast, which is meant to make comics more accessible wasn’t very accessible, seems like a fundemental flaw if you ask me. So look for shorter podcasts, more than once a week and covering different things. I expect to record the first one tonight, I expect it to come in at 20 to 30 minutes and be posted tomorrow.

The idea here is to be very casual friendly, so I’ll not only be keeping people apprised of the big events across the Marvel and DC universes. I’ll be making recommendations for people who read very few titles and doing reviews of them and other titles. Hopefully this makes the podcast more accessible and less of a one hour lecture each week from Professor Curry.

Also, I’m going to start answering questions at the beginning of podcasts, the harder the better. So send em if you want em answered.

What’s this podcast all about? I’m glad you asked (ok, so technically I asked). I’ve been considering a solo podcast for a long time, I even registered a couple of domain names for a gaming oriented podcast about a year ago (I know because my registrations just expired). It didn’t take me long to realize I don’t play enough games these days to pull of a weekly or even a monthly podcast about games. So I started thinking about a comicbook podcast. The thing was I couldn’t come up with a hook, something to make me different then the multitude of review podcasts out there (ok there aren’t that many, but I don’t like to just do what other people are doing). When Jeff and I started Max Geek it was different because we were covering all kinds of topics for geeks, not just tech, but anything the average geek might be into, Jeff and I also have an interesting enough dynamic that I never felt like we were copying anybody. So I sat on the idea of a comicbook podcast for almost a year.

A week ago Jeff and I started talking about doing Max Geek again. Jeff was in the 1src chat and apparently the topic of Max Geek came up, there were enough requests (ok so even one request would have been enough) to convince us that we should start doing it again. Apparently the possiblity of a comicbook podcast by me came up and someone made the comment that they had learned about comics from the comic corner. That’s when it hit me, I could do a comicbook podcast that didn’t just review comics (which I will most certainly do) but I could tie the things going on in comics now with the continuity of comics. I could make some of the obscure references accessible to new readers and if I played my cards right, I could get people interested in comics they haven’t read before, or even in reading a comic for the first time (delusions of grandeur are fun aren’t they?).

So I present the Maximum Geek Comic Cast. A podcast out to not just tell what’s on the shelf today, but how it got there. I expect to cover a lot of comicbook history (which means research, research means buying comics, I love buying comics). To make this work the way I want it to though I want feedback from the listeners. I want to know what aspects of comics you’re interested in hearing about. I want to hear your questions and I and want to know what you think.

The first episode is Scheduled for next Thursday. I gotta say, I’m psyched to get started on this.
